James Recob ’50 died Nov. 30, 2019. He was born in Columbus, Ohio to Francis and Eva Recob on Jan. 7, 1927. James graduated from West High School in 1945, went on to serve in WWII for a year and a half, then studied at Otterbein, earning a degree in Religion.
During his time at Otterbein he was involved in Quiz and Quill, Student Gov., and honorary society Phi Alpha Theta. James continued his education, receiving a Master of Divinity from the United Theological Seminary in 1953, and a Doctorate in Theology from Boston University in 1971. After teaching for 26 years as a Professor of Religion at Otterbein, he retired in 1992. James maintained a presence on campus, though, with the men’s chorus, Tintinabulator Bell Choir, and writing group Scribblers.
James is preceded in death by son John Recob ’75, and survived by wife Betty Knight Recob ’50, daughter Jane Recob Charles ’78, and grandchildren Nickolas and Laura Charles.
