Janet Gurney Welch, Class of 1960

Janet Gurney Welch ’60 died Oct. 2, 2020. Janet earned a degree in physical education from Otterbein College where she played field hockey, volleyball, softball and basketball. She was also in the Tau Epsilon Mu (Talisman) sorority. After graduation Janet traveled to Levelland, Texas to teach Junior High Physical Education. In the fall of 1961, she returned to Ohio to each at Eastmoor High School in Columbus and remained there until 1965. Her husband Tom Welch’s job with the 3M Company, moved them to Florida, New Orleans, Nashville and California. Janet then taught in California for 21 years.
They moved to Arizona in January of 1997, living in an active retirement community. In retirement her sport of choice was Pickleball. In 2007, Janet and husband Tom went to Ireland with the Alumni Travelers.
