John Ashton “Johnny” Carlisle ‘21, died June 11, 2021. He was born February 12, 1998 in Westerville, to Chris Carlisle ’80 and Rebekah Medaugh Carlisle ’81. He graduated from Johnstown-Monroe High School in 2016 and Columbus State Community College in 2019 before transferring to Otterbein University where he studied global studies and political science. His B.A. degree was awarded posthumously.

As a child Johnny enjoyed being the ball boy for Otterbein’s baseball and men’s soccer teams. He was an accomplished youth and collegiate golfer. At Johnstown he holds the record for tournament wins; was a two-time conference player of the year; two-time first team Central District; and led his team to a 7th place finish in the state tournament. He was a two-time qualifier for the Junior World Golf Tournament at Torrey Pines and the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship at PGA National. At Columbus State he led the Cougars to a national runner-up finish and received All America honors. He was a long-time employee of Clover Valley Golf Club. At the time of his death he was working at Zoar Village Golf Course and making plans to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In addition to his parents Johnny is survived by sister, Kaitlin Rose Carlisle ’18, grandparents Joe Carlisle ’50 and Helen Haines Carlisle ’53, and grandfather Rev. John Medaugh.
