John Reichard, Class of 1961

John Reichard ’61 died Dec. 20, 2019. He was born on Dec. 14, 1938. John was a graduate of Stivers High School, then went on to graduate from Otterbein with a bachelor of science in Education, and receive a master’s in Education from Xavier University in 1967. During his time at Otterbein John was active on the football team, as a member of the ‘O’ Club, and as a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
He began his teaching career at Northmont High School in 1961. During his 7 years at Northmont, John taught several subjects in business office education, and began the COE program along with being an Assistant Football coach. In 1968, Patterson Co-Op became his focal point for the next 3 years as COE Coordinator and Assistant Football coach. Then in 1971, John’s final move was to the newly built Montgomery County Joint Vocational School, in Clayton, OH. It was here that he spent his last 29 years in education. Starting out as a Counselor, moving on to Supervisor in Business and Office Education, to his final position as the Director of Adult Education, retiring in 2000 after 39 total years of service in education.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years Joyce Reichard; son John ‘Tim’ Reichard ’89; daughter Teri Winget; grandsons Kevin Winget, Mitch Winget, Matthew Feltner ’04, Eric Feltner ’07, and current Otterbein student John H. Reichard; and his sister Linda Fischer.
