Russell Matthew Obituary Pic

Matthew Russell ’00 died January 17, 2023. He was born on September 21, 1977 to the late Dave and Diane Russell.
Matt received his BS in biology & earth science from Otterbein University where he was involved in the Eta Phi Mu (Jonda) fraternity with honoraies in Alpha Epsilon Delta, Torch & Key and Phi Eta Sigma. He was also on the Otterbein soccer team.
Matt went on to earn his Medical Doctor degree at the University of Toledo in 2005.

Matt will be remembered for his love of his family. Supporting his girls in their scholarly and athletic endeavors was his primary consideration when deciding how to spend his time. He was proud to be a doctor and a teacher and Matt would want all to know that he worked tirelessly to earn his many accolades in his professional career. More importantly, he felt that each person he encountered was deserving of his time. Matty loved to fish, his tennis shoe collection, the Buckeyes, and above all, God. He always strove for excellence, whether it be working out, playing golf or ping pong. I know his friends and family will never forget Matty’s endless energy, that crazy twinkle in his eye and mischievous smile when he was up to something.

Matty or Doc is survived by his siblings: Amy Jo (Thom), Ian (Michele) or twin brother Ben ’00 (Stacie ’01), daughters, Kensie and Piper and their mother, Monika. Matt is also survived by his nieces (Rowan, Regan and Paige) and nephews (Rhett, Logan and Colton), and his girlfriend, Kelly.
