Melanie Miles, Class of 1984

Melanie Miles ’84 died Jan. 26, 2022. She was born on June 6, 1962 in Columbus, OH to the late Joseph and Martha (Troop) ‘49 Miles. She earned her undergraduate degree in theatre from Otterbein University and went on to earn her master’s from Ohio University in Athens, OH.
Melanie was a very talented Theatrical Costumer. She worked for various companies throughout her vast career including Sesame Place in Bucks County, PA, Shakespeare of NJ in Morristown, NJ as well as the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival. She worked for various brands creating mascot costumes. In High Point, NC she worked for the Police Department’s undercover unit, creating costumes for undercover officers. Sharing her love of Halloween, Melanie also worked doing costumes for the Halloween Haunt at Dorney Park in Allentown, PA.
Melanie had many passions in life including her love of design. She especially loved to decorate her house every season. She had a fine sense of color. She also adored animals. She was a magnet for critters of any kind. Not only did she love helping stray animals, but she enjoyed caring for her goats, chickens, fish, frogs, dogs and cat. She could regularly be seen driving her little tractor around the property while taking care of all of her animals. Melanie also enjoyed the water and especially loved beach vacations.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her grandparents Horace Troop ’23 and Alice Davison Troop ’23; and uncle H. William Troop ’50. Survivors in addition to her husband Tom Stanton include her step-son; Matthew Stanton; sister; Marty Miles (Tom) Paciocco; brother Davison (Donna) Miles.; niece Emily Stephens and nephew Brian Miles ’02.
