Regina Fehrens Poulard, Class of 1964

Regina Fehrens Poulard ’64 died Jan. 6, 2019. Regina was born in Berlin, Germany in 1941 and after studying as an interpreter in Germany, she came to the United States in 1962 to attend Otterbein. During her time at Otterbein she was active in Phi Sigma lota and met her life partner and husband, Jean V. Poulard ‘63.
After receiving a master’s degree at the University of Pittsburgh, she moved to Chicago where she received a doctorate in English from Loyola University and started a 30+ year teaching career at Chicago State University. She chose to teach those who needed extra help, focusing on students with remedial needs. Regina was an active member of her community, a member of the Michiana Shores Park Board, participating in Cub and Boy Scout units in Michigan City, offering local children German and French lessons while continuing to teach.
Regina is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Ruth, and her brother Johannes. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jean ‘63, and her two sons, Johannes and Roger ‘99, as well as three sisters in Germany and Switzerland
