Faculty
Ryan Berndt
Professor
Ryan Berndt grew up in North Dakota, attended college at the U. of Chicago, and received his Ph.D. from the U. of Minnesota. He held positions at Ohio State, Kansas State, and Yale before coming to Otterbein in 2008. His current mathematical interest is in the Fourier transform and its size in weighted spaces.
Kirk Kayser
Associate Professor
Kirk Kayser grew up in northwest Ohio and received his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Toledo before obtaining his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Arizona State University. His research utilizes agent-based simulation, kinetic theory, and game theory for socioeconomic modeling; he also has a growing interest in data mining. Dr. Kayser enjoys spending time with his wife and two adorable daughters and is active in his faith.
Matthew McMullen
Senior Instructor
Matthew McMullen grew up near Syracuse, NY and received his B.S. from Loyola University Maryland. After teaching at Towson Catholic High School for a year (Carmello Anthony was a sophomore there at the time!), he attended graduate school at The Ohio State University and received his M.S. in Mathematics. His research is in statistics education and mathematical problem solving. When not teaching, he likes to run, watch soccer (COYS!), speed solve Rubik’s Cubes, travel, and spend time with his wife…
Jeremy Moore
Associate Professor & Department Chair
Jeremy Moore was born and raised in central Ohio. He received his Ph.D. from Ohio University. Originally, his research was in algebraic coding theory, but those projects spawned new areas of interest and now he focuses on the study of linear independence of invertible elements in modules. He enjoys teaching any course available, but particularly loves modern algebra. He has also had the good fortune of being the advisor for Otterbein Christian Fellowship (OCF) and is in awe of the…
Pei Pei
Associate Professor & Program Coordinator of Actuarial Science
Pei Pei received her B.S. in 2005 in Applied Mathematics and M.S. in 2008 in Matrix Theory from East China Normal University. In 2014, she got her Ph.D. in Partial Differential Equations and Applied Analysis from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her current research interests are the well-posedness and long-term behavior of solutions to nonlinear evolution equations of hyperbolic type, in particular under the influence of a combination of dissipative and accretive terms. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, yoga,…
