Internships in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

We encourage all Biochemistry and Molecular Biology majors to have a professional experience prior to graduation.

Otterbein University and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology highly value internships as part of the Five Cardinal Experiences. These experiences can be critically important for students in allowing them to apply course skills to real world situations and in shaping their future career goals. Internships can take place locally in Central Ohio or around the country and the world.

Students interested in careers in animal or human health take advantage of the abundant medical facilities and private practices close to campus. They spend many hours shadowing doctors and working in labs, gaining great experience for professional school applications.  Central Ohio is home to nine major hospitals and health care systems, including two within walking distance of campus.  These offer multiple opportunities for volunteering, shadowing, research, and employment.

Students have also conducted internships at the following companies:

  • Lubrizol Corporation, a provider of specialty chemicals for the transportation, industrial and consumer markets.
  • CAS, a global organization of expert scientists, technologists, and business leaders with a successful and extended history of delivering scientific information opportunities.
  • Quanta BioDesign, leading supplier and developer of dPEG® used in modification of therapeutic macromolecules.
  • LATA Los Alamos Technical Associates, a national environmental services provider
  • Nationwide Children’s Hospital in one of their many research laboratories
  • Scotts Miracle Gro, an American multinational corporation headquartered in Marysville that manufactures consumer lawn, garden and pest control products.
