Dr. Sylvia Vance ’47
, alumna and emerita faculty member at Otterbein. Vance received the 1995 Distinguished Alumna Award, which is given to recognize outstanding service to the College, one’s profession, and the community. She served as a co-chair of the Sesquicentennial Coordinating Committee as the College prepares for its 150th anniversary in 1997. She returned to Otterbein in 1961 to teach French and European history but she was equally active outside the classroom until her retirement in 1991. Read more about Sylvia’s impact here.

Helen Fagley Skinner ’52 died June 14, 2022. She was born on December 23, 1923 in Tyrone, PA. to the late Joseph and Lucinda Fagley. Helen earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Otterbein University where she was in the Sigma Alpha Tau (Owls) sorority. Helen and Ralph loved to travel, having visited many countries across the globe. Also preceded in death by her husband Ralph Skinner.

Charles Selby


Charles Selby '57 died June 26, 2022. While at Otterbein, Charles played tennis, was in the ‘O” Club and in the Lambda Gamma Epsilon (Kings) fraternity. He retired from fulltime ministry in 1997, and after Janet retired as a Toledo teacher in 2000, they divided their time between Lakeside and Sarasota, Fla. Sharon Vorhees Ricker ’08 died June 28, 2022. Sharon was a lifelong learner, graduating from Otterbein University with degrees in history and psychology. She worked for Huntington Bank in Columbus for over 35 years. Sharon was an active member at St. Pauls Catholic Church, a longtime member of their choir, and a compassionate volunteer of the W.A.R.M. food pantry. Dale Crawford


Dale Crawford '59 died June 1, 2022. Dale attended Otterbein earning his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He was involved in the ROTC, Golf, Tennis, Football, “O” Club, Lambda Gamma Epsilion (Kings) fraternity, Tan & Cardinal, and WOBN Radio.
