The OtterFit Program

The OtterFit Health and Fitness Program is an opportunity for the faculty and staff of Otterbein University to use the services of an Exercise Science and Health Promotion major as their personal trainer, participate in group training classes and enhance wellness through educational programming and events.

Registration is now open for personal training and group fitness classes. Please use below link to register.

Registration for group fitness classes and personal training registration is open until January 19th, with training beginning on January 24th. Please make sure to register in order to reserve your space. Drop in participation is always welcome in the group fitness classes.

Group Training and Fitness Classes Spring 2022
Our goal is to create an inclusive, engaging, and dynamic wellness opportunity for all faculty and staff on campus. All fitness levels are welcome at every training session and class. We hope you will join us!

Classes are open to all faculty, staff, and significant others. All classes take place in the Rike Center Fitness Studio (across from the weight room). Classes run week 3 – week 13. Drop ins are welcome if classes are not full. Pre-register to reserve your spot!

Pillars of Fitness, Mondays, 5:30pm – 6:30pm, Ashley Kish

Each Monday, a different pillar of fitness will be the focus to keep you engaged and motivated to tackle your fitness goals. Classes will always include cardio, strength or endurance training, core work, and flexibility but the main focus of each class will change weekly.

Yoga, Wednesdays, 5:30pm – 6:30pm, Jordan Stoll

Yoga is the “union” of the body, mind, and breath. Included will be breath and meditation practice to aid in stress management.

Interval Training, Thursdays, 5:30pm – 6:30pm, Ashley Kish

Short bursts of cardio are combined with strength training and core work to keep you engaged and having fun.

Personal Training

Novice Personal Training, Free of Charge, Weeks 3-11, including pre-assessment, 8 weeks of training, and post-assessment

Personal training with a novice student trainer is available free of charge. Training sessions are twice per week for 60 minutes on non-consecutive days. Training programs will expose clients to a variety of training methods following the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines for Quantity and Quality of Exercise (Garber et al., 2011). Sessions will be individualized but will include modes of training the students are learning in class. Each session will include resistance, cardiovascular, and flexibility training. Faculty and staff are invited to participate as learning partners with the students while they complete their Exercise Science practicum hours. Sessions take place in person but will be socially distanced and follow all COVID guidelines.

Experienced Individual or Partner Training, $15 per session
Students who have passed the American College of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer exam and successfully completed the 2 semester OtterFit mentorship program are eligible to work as paid trainers. Rates are $15/hour for individual training or $25/hour for partner training. Please email Erica Van Dop for additional details and availability.
