Scholarships & Awards in Health & Sport Sciences

The generosity of donors has made it possible for us to offer a limited number of annual scholarships to full time undergraduate students in the Department of Health & Sport Sciences. Students who met the criteria set forth by the donor and who are majoring in one of the following areas: Allied Health, Athletic Training, Exercise Science & Health Promotion, Public Health Education, and Sport Management are eligible to apply. The dollar amount of the scholarship varies each year and the process for obtaining one is competitive.

The Marilyn E. Day Endowed Award
Awarded annually to a full-time student majoring in the department for excellence in scholarship, leadership and service.

Elmer W. “Bud” Yoest ’53 Endowed Award
This award is presented to student(s) demonstrating an exceptional commitment to campus leadership and citizenship and preparing for a career in the areas Health, Fitness & Wellness.

Harold C. Martin ’33 Endowed Award
This award is presented to a student who is planning to teach and/or coach.

Col. Joseph E. Pizzi Endowed Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student currently enrolled and majoring in Athletic Training.

Ashleigh Thornton Leadership Award
Awarded to a student currently enrolled in a public health education major.

Jean A. Rocks-Mizia Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a Master of Science in Allied Health student who is in financial need.

 

Application Process

Scholarships are awarded to full time undergraduate students in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences majoring in one of the following: Allied Health, Athletic Training, Exercise Science & Health Promotion, Public Health Education, and Sport Management. You must meet the criteria set forth by the scholarship donors (see above descriptions) to apply. As long as criteria are met you may apply for more than one scholarship and you may use the same form.

All materials (essay, recommendation and application) are due back in one envelope (no exceptions) and must be delivered to the Department of Health and Sport Sciences office 103 by March 2, 2023. Late materials will not be considered.

Scholarship recipients will be notified prior to the academic honors convocation held in the spring semester.

Scholarships are awarded annually and you must apply and compete for them annually. They do not automatically renew. We encourage all HSS undergraduate majors to apply-even if you applied last year and did not receive a scholarship.
