A Message From Our Chair

In 2019, OTT-NAN (Otterbein Nursing Alumni Network) was created. Since then, a strong foundation has been built by dedicated individuals who want this organization to be successful and effective. I’d like to invite nursing alumni to participate in the activities of OTT-NAN. If you are interested in attending our quarterly meetings, please contact me at kball@otterbein.eduTogether we can create an amazing networking, learning, and sharing platform for Otterbein nursing alumni, nursing students, and faculty.

Heather Walker Memorial Scholarship

Heather Walker MSN ’18 was a certified Nurse Anesthetist and a graduate of Otterbein University. After receiving lifesaving heart surgery at a young age, she was inspired to pursue a career in nursing. Her career included work in pediatric cardiothoracic and adult oncology units.

When she passed away in July 2020 due to complications from her childhood heart surgery, her family was overwhelmed with a massive outpouring of love and respect from classmates and co-workers.

Donors honoring Heather Walker include family, friends, classmates, and instructors who believe that her legacy at Otterbein would be best honored with a scholarship. Her memory will live on with future Otterbein students who follow her path to improve and care for human life.

We have raised over $50,000 in gifts and pledges for the scholarship, which will support two Nurse Anesthesia students each year at Otterbein!

Please consider donating as a way to honor Heather and positively impact the life of a future nursing student.

Thank You: Pelvic Simulators

The COVID-19 experience illustrated the need for quality simulation models for student teaching. Already, Otterbein uses a high quality simulation lab for a variety of classes and procedures. Although standard human models have been identified by experts as the best method for teaching pelvic examinations, we cannot afford the liability or cost to employ them.

Thanks to generous donations from dozens of Otterbein Nursing alumni and faculty last fall, over $4,000 was raised for the purchase of two refurbished pelvic simulators with pressure sensors.
